Helping others to harness their own powers is an excellent superpower for a librarian. As my ranting in Monday’s class evidenced, I think our most important job is to empower people.
Kate DavisKeymasterWelcome Ruth! Do you have an online space where you share your work? I’d love to have a look 🙂
Kate DavisKeymasterTalking your way out of things is a great superpower. I think I might have that one too. Except that I do have a tendency to think out loud, which can get me into trouble!
I wouldn’t be too worried about the evolution of the profession. I think it’s exciting and it will mean new and interesting roles. Uncertainty, yes, but hopefully exciting uncertainty, full of promise!
Kate DavisKeymasterGetting excited about what other people are excited about is a seriously good superpower for a librarian! It’s a great aptitude because we spend so much time working in partnership with and supporting people with the things that get them excited. This is totally a marketable aptitude and should be your tagline on your CV 😉
Kate DavisKeymasterWelcome back Jill!
Kate DavisKeymasterShannon I can’t believe she’s 1 already! It feels like yesterday that you were getting ready for her arrival.
Nice to ‘see’ you again!
Kate DavisKeymasterHaha. I’m also stubborn. Stupidly stubborn. Our Miss 6 is exactly the same. It’s given me an insight into what it must be like to deal with me! I love her feisty independence though. There are benefits to stubbornness!
Kate DavisKeymasterIt’s live now on the Week 2 page Louise!
Kate DavisKeymasterHi Jill
Ah, ok. There isn’t a printer friendly stylesheet.
I will make a printable version of the schedule for you and I will also make a printable version of the assessment brief. I’ll do the schedule now, but the assessment brief won’t be available til Monday, after we’ve firmed up the requirements.
Stay tuned!
Kate DavisKeymasterHi guys
Sorry I missed this – I just found all the email alerts in my spam folder. Gah!
Are you able to access the wiki now, or is it still a problem?
K
Kate DavisKeymasterWelcome Luke! It’s fantastic that you’re already working in a library, and particularly great to be in such a big library service – lots of opportunities! Looking forward to working with you this semester.
Kate DavisKeymasterYou sound crazy busy Stacey!
I wish I had your time warping superpower. I’m afraid my method for jamming everything in is to work ridiculous hours! I’ll watch and learn this semester! 😉
Kate DavisKeymasterYou should definitely feel free to put your blog link on your profile. My personal philosophy around managing my online identity is that it’s not really possible to separate work and personal when I don’t really separate them IRL. I’m pretty heart on the sleeve and all my online presences are linked together. Just go with what works for you!
I can’t take the credit for the 612 site but I do love a good tinker, and I’m always trying to design the best possible online learning environment. It means I invariably break things and have to tweak them on the fly!
Kate DavisKeymasterSounds like you are a natural librarian 😉
Welcome to the course. We’ll do our best to help you manage that feeling of being overwhelmed so please just shout out if you need anything.
Kate DavisKeymasterGreat to hear you’re volunteering Kate. That will really help you in the course, because it will allow you to contextualise what you’re learning, and it’s great experience for your CV.
Welcome!
