Peldon I like how you used the library and didn’t need to know that what you were accessing was a “reference service”. We sometimes label our activities to meet our reporting or organisational requirements but this type of labelling is irrelevant to clients. It doesn’t matter what we call it if it is meeting clients’ needs and connecting people with information.
Clare ThorpeKeymasterDeb,
A great summary and example of how to complete the Twitter chat exercise. With scheduled chats like this it’s so important to do the pre-reading and have your responses ready to tweet. I’ve found the pace of these sessions lightning fast – even more so than conference tweet streams and the like.

I’ve tidied up your excess posts to keep your forum cleaner. I’ve left the original post for week 3 plus the version that students have commented on.

Clare ThorpeKeymasterHey Shannon,
Your links give me expired messages. Can you update these so I can confirm your references when I mark in a couple of weeks?
Thanks,
Clare
August 25, 2015 at 1:56 pm in reply to: How closely related to the weeks materials do the blog post need to be? #1363Clare ThorpeKeymasterCaitlin I’m sure you have enough in your review of the online service.
Unless you think it would substantially add to your post, I don’t think you need to evaluate a second dimension of the service.
Clare
Clare ThorpeKeymasterHi Deborah,
Ideally if you choose makerspace as the topic of the program review, you should review an activity that is about making/creating. If you aren’t in the correct age group, why don’t you ask BCC if you can attend as an observer? Learning how to use a tablet sounds like a better fit for the digital literacy week.
Clare
Clare ThorpeKeymasterHi Caitlin,
Yes there will be feedback provided after the first checkpoint. Remember I’ll be marking the first three posts as a whole rather than as individual posts so there is some room for variation in the amount of research/readings per blog entry. Â I’m not reading everyone’s post in depth now and commenting as that would be equivalent to proofing a draft which is not my job to do. Use your best judgement and ask your peers to comment on your posts if you think you are off track. I’m sure you aren’t.
With the quizzes, they are designed for you to complete while you are engaged with the readings and content for that topic. For your own sanity and time management, I’d recommend doing the quiz in the correct week while the content is fresh in your mind. Good luck!

Clare ThorpeKeymasterSaurav,
A few of your colleagues have already tackled this and have chosen activities such as an EndNote class, Family History session, etc. Any programmed activity run by your library (orientation, baby rhyme time, seniors tech class) is appropriate. Have a look at the what’s on lists at your library of choice.
Clare
Clare ThorpeKeymasterNatalie,
You’ve listed this as your service review but you haven’t actually gone and reviewed a service as per the assignment brief. I’m happy for you to change this to your issues reflection blog instead. Please read the brief again so that where you need to undertake a review or “field study” you do that (you need to do that for the program review piece as well).
Clare
Clare ThorpeKeymasterHi Leena,
Can you let me know if this is your trends reflection, issue based reflection or argument blog post? Thanks, Clare

August 18, 2015 at 12:06 pm in reply to: Week 3: The New Reference Librarian – Trends Reflection #1110Clare ThorpeKeymasterHi Jennifer,
Just to make it easy for me with the marking, can you tag this with the topic you are addressing? Is this your trend review or your argument blog?
Thanks, Clare
Clare ThorpeKeymasterWow! What an honour to meet the woman behind PACLII. Great to have you with us.
Clare ThorpeKeymasterThere’s definitely cross over skills from document management via information management to libraries. It will be interesting to see if you can relate any of your current experience as you progress through your studies.
Always happy to see people are interested in working at SLQ. BCC is great too though some of their more interesting programming is currently happening out at some of the big suburban hubs like Sunnybank and Chermside. Might be worth a look.
