October 29, 2015 at 9:54 pm in reply to: Week 9 – Argue a Point – Makerspaces – Tech to Disconnect #2844Steven WalkerParticipantI think Makerspaces are for everyone and that Librariues should embrace them, i did like your reading however on this toopic and was wondering if you think the BCC should have a hackerspace in its city Library?
October 29, 2015 at 9:53 pm in reply to: Issues reflection- Community engagement through art in libraries #2843Steven WalkerParticipantWonderful reflection 🙂
Steven WalkerParticipantHi Katherine,
I have never heard of pintrest doing something likr this before. Most intriguing. Well done,
Steve
Steven WalkerParticipantThe fact that you have gone and done all this research to back up your argument is a great thing. I have been using books to do mine, and not online books but the good old days of walking into a library and hiring one. I notice that you have cross examined popculture in a fluent manner here. Well done..I almost get a “feeling” from your last post that you are not sure whether libraries will distinguish these two seperate clash of cultures, to which i must even admit , i have never heard of high culture before.
Steven WalkerParticipantPeldon this is some of the best work in this unit I have seen to dat, you have gone into great depth and had a good analysis here.!

I am of the opposite view , it would be awesome if you could take a look at my twitter chat champion – in here is where i pose a series of questions etc in order to get my pro 3d printing view accross. Morpheuss17 is my user ID

September 21, 2015 at 6:59 pm in reply to: Week 7 Information Literacy: Issues Based Reflection #2201Steven WalkerParticipantHi,
You have made some excellent points here, by connecting web 2.0 materials out, it has made librarians jobs easier and it has festered an environment that creates a train the trainer type environment. What do you think? Like the librarian teaches a user how to use wikipedia to find things, then a student could append material they were studying about a topic and add it to wikipedia.
Steve
Steven WalkerParticipantperfect i will relay it in class
Steven WalkerParticipantThanks Steve !LOL

September 21, 2015 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Week 9 Journal Entry – Argue a Point of View. “Makerspaces: what’s the point?" #2193Steven WalkerParticipantHi Luke, I share this opinion and however i do feel that libraries should carry 3d printers and have makerspacers to keep libraries alive and in the here and now. They have wethered the storm of the internet geneeration and have adapted, so i hope to see libraries embracing future technologies as well. A few of the services i have attended at the weekend and in the last few weeks have given me  alot to think about. I can no longer say “im bored , theres nothing to do” when  there is a whole world of fun to be had with makerspaces, this is in Brisbane. However in Kalgoorlie when i lived there , there literally was nothing to do. The library there played a low key role and i could almost smell its closure, even charging $10 an hour for internet usage still.
Well Done! Steve
September 21, 2015 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Week 5: Reading and Literacy (Argue a point of view) #2192Steven WalkerParticipantHi Patricia, I enjoyed reading your post, however I didnt find a small conuter argument, to show the other “side” of the argument. You have clearly researched your topic quite in depth and i commend you on that. It has a strong focus on recreational use of libraries but does not touch too much broadly as in how libraries are used overall , rather this is an argument about recreational reading and the librarys role. Im just wondering whether in your opinion opr argument whether we have time to “save or capture” the next generation into reading. As studies have shown attention spans getting shorter and people want information quicker. And also genres, are people more inclined to go with Books that are more like TV shows with lots of gore and that of the like, can we as Information Professionals retain a readership into the future?
Steven WalkerParticipantHi Paola,
This issue is close to my heart and I can see why you wrote about it. What i drew most from your Argument is that your made a distinction they The Information Systems Profession is like a Chamelion and can be adapted. Well Done
Regards
Steve
