Hi Kate, i really enjoyed your post and your individual argument 🙂 I also do not believe that a 3D printer is an essential purchase for every library to accommodate a maker space environment,i feel that when i think of a maker space environment i think of art and craft not the technical aspect of a 3D printer which is something i would expect tot see in a space such as the Edge. And Remember what Daniel said at the Edge tour… In 3-5 years time anyone will be able to purchase a 3D printer, they will cost a tenth of the price and you will be able to purchase them in Big W! 🙂

Hi Katherine, what an interesting concept! As i have learnt through recent weeks, unless a library has a social media strategy they concept is dead in the water. I think this has the potential to grow it just needs to be tweaked and it sounds like know one has tried it before so there are obviously going to be things that were not yet considered, hopefully when they review the concept they will make it more user friendly. Sam.

Hi Robynne, I agree whole heartedly with you in regards to how amazing the after school program could be if librarians were given the opportunity to design. All of the resources that are available to them would make for a great program. Kids of today are missing out if they choose to reduce a library facility and replace the librarian with a volunteer…

Hey Nat, what a great idea of bringing the maker space into a hospital! For children that are subjected to some childhood illnesses can see them having such long stays in hospital, they would have ideas and concepts of what things they could make to make their journey easier. I guess also it would be a good distraction for them too. Children who are hospitalised seem to carry the identity of being ‘the sick kid’ but as you said, they can be the agents of change and this concept could emotionally pull a child out of their bed. Nice post 🙂

Hi Steve, your experience in the Kalgoorlie Regional Library is a true reflection of how great maker spaces are and the diverse groups of people that come and utilise the space. Nice reflection 🙂

Hey Will, the hard work, sweat and tears that researchers put into their grants is unbelievable and to now have even more threats looming over them in regards to having the resources available is ridiculous. Having the availability of funds and support from our government is fundamental for our researchers to be recognised on an international platform. Removing this is just another way our government is holding us back 🙁

Hi Kirsty, great post! The concept of bringing music into a library on this scale, I had never heard of before. Hopefully with the success of The Late Night Library program in Sydney, the concept will infiltrate up here 🙂

Hey Steph, This space sounds amazing for children and really interactive! With all the things they have available you can see how ‘some’ people would use it as a day care centre… Although I think they are taking a constructive approach with the 3 strikes and your out policy. It sounds like a great space for the littles 🙂

Hi Paola, I really enjoyed this post and i liked how you could correlate the artistic landscape to an information landscape. This is an interesting concept. And like with anything, each individual is going to extract their own interpretation of that landscape. 🙂

Hi Shannon! I am so sorry the links did not work. I have gone back in and corrected them. I am so sorry. I you come back and have a look 🙂 I think that zines could be local to the state or country but they can also be international. When you look at the Riot Grrl movement, their zines were at some stages international. But initially all zines tend to be established from a grassroots perspective so the collections would be indicative to the time and place. 🙂

Thanks for responding Deb! I think it is important that libraries have collections of zines. They offer such a grassroots perspective of what is happening at that particular time. I can only imagine what zines were like in regards to Thatcher’s time in government…

Hi! I absolutely agree with you that librarians have a responsibility to educate IL. We are studying information science and what has become so evident is that librarianship is not about the books, its about the information and getting it to the public or having the resources and ability to show patrons how to use such technologies. Librarians can help bridge the gap that some people feel they have fallen into in regards to I, particularly older patrons but essentially everyone. Great post, really enjoyed it!

This post made me smile 🙂 and I concur with you in regards to feeling like they ‘know’ you are reviewing their service as an RA! I did my RA service review online and i had to do everything to stop myself from letting the poor woman know that i was going to be writing about my experience. I simply wanted to tell her that she did great and she is doing an awesome job. People don’t get told that enough.

Interesting post. I like how you can reflect back on you own anxieties in regards to approaching the reference desk and now you are the one extending your hand (advice) to those who are not quite sure what they are asking for. As someone who has the same anxieties this is the first semester that i have embraced the online reference enquiry and it is great. The response is immediate and they are so helpful, thanks for being part of this and alleviating the anxiety 🙂

Hi Ruth, Thank you for such a well informed and specific post. I had no idea that QAGOMA had this facility available with in the gallery let alone the size if the extensive catalogue available! It is great that anyone can send through enquiries in regards to past and present artists and they will respond in such a timely manner.Thank you for such an interesting read, I feel i have gained a lot of information about an organisation that i love to visit and for making me aware of facilities that i will hopefully utilise one day!
