A single feed for all student forum posts

In Monday night’s class, you guys requested the ability to access all of the student forum posts from one place.

I’ve mashed all the RSS feeds for your individual forums into a single feed so you can subscribe in your RSS reader. (Looking for an RSS reader? I use and recommend Feedly.)

Subscribing to the feed in an RSS reader is the best way to keep on top of all of the posts.

For those of you who don’t want to use an RSS reader, you should start using an RSS reader anyway. Really. You don’t know what you’re missing! But if you’re not keen, I’ve also embedded the feed in a page on the unit site which I’ve called Student forums feed. You can access it from the main navigation. It’s not pretty, but it’s functional. It includes the first 500 characters of each post, and to read the rest, you can click the title and it will open in a new window. It doesn’t display the full backlist; just the most recent posts.

For those interested in how I did this, here’s a rundown.

To create the RSS feed, I used ChimpFeedr to mash the individual RSS feeds for each of your forums into one feed.

I then used Feed2JS to convert the RSS feed into JavaScript, which I then embedded in the student forums feed page on the site.

No technical skills required! Just some copying and pasting using free and easy web tools.
